An exploration in texture.

Carolyn Cameron is a contemporary textile artist based in Buckinghamshire. Her work predominately involves stitching onto paper.

Having lived all over the world as a child, Carolyn is inspired by recording images of urban landscapes, and her work concerns creating artwork using watercolour and layering the architectural forms by repetitive stitching onto paper.

Initially completing a Foundation course in Art and Design, Carolyn then moved on to study part-time for a Fine Art Degree at Bucks New University as a mature student. After experimenting with lots of different mediums, It wasn’t until her final year that Carolyn started using thread in her work.

Mixed media and colour

After graduating, Carolyn had a studio in an old furniture factory in High Wycombe which she loved and was where she spent many happy years creating art. The factory was eventually developed into housing so for the past few years she has been working from a studio at home.

Through sewing, Carolyn's images are built up from a series of quick and impulsive responses, evoking the urban spirit of the place and time with layering of personal marking.

In the past couple of years Carolyn has been adding colour and mixed media to her work.
